NeoBlade FAQs

Is NeoBlade compatible with other blades on the market?

Yes, NeoBlade supports most standard 9mm 30° snap-off blades, including popular brands like OLFA (e.g. KB-5 30B) and NT Cutter (BDC-200P). However, we highly recommend using our proprietary SK5 high-carbon steel blades, which are 2–3x more durable and designed for ultrasonic vibration. Standard blades may lack the hardness and edge retention needed for optimal ultrasonic performance.

Can NeoBlade operate while plugged in if the battery is empty?

Yes, it can operate while charging. However, performance is reduced to around 50% when powered by USB-C (requires 9V-3A PD power). NeoBlade will not function without a battery installed, as the battery also serves a safety lock mechanism.

How long can NeoBlade operate continuously? Does it need cooldown time?

NeoBlade offers:

  • 1 hour of no-load runtime,
  • 45 minutes at medium continuous load,
  • 1.5–3 hours in intermittent (pulse) use.

It includes a 2-minute auto-pause cycle to prevent overheating during long sessions. Otherwise, it does not require manual cooldown periods.

What battery type is used? Can I replace it myself?

NeoBlade uses a custom dual-cell high-discharge battery pack—not a standard 18650 cell. These are not user-replaceable and are built to meet specific output requirements.

Can I use NeoBlade with a glass cutting mat?

Not recommended. Hard surfaces like glass or metal may reflect ultrasonic vibrations and produce high-pitched noise. Use the NanoTech Cutting Mat or other non-reflective, soft-surface mats for optimal results.

Does NeoBlade reduce power when lifted off the material?

Yes, the system intelligently reduces power within 0.5–1.5 seconds of leaving a surface. Minimum idle power drops to 7–9W, significantly extending no-load battery life.

Is ultrasonic cutting dangerous to touch?

No. When in contact with skin, ultrasonic energy is absorbed and does not enhance cutting. The blade behaves like a regular craft knife. Blade temperatures stay below 65°C and will not burn skin.

Can left-handed users operate NeoBlade safely?

Yes. The side exhaust system is balanced for both left- and right-handed users. Holding the tool with proper airflow clearance ensures safe operation.

Is NeoBlade suitable for users with nerve sensitivity or hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS)?

NeoBlade emits very low vibration due to ultrasonic motion and is generally comfortable for extended use. However, those with pre-existing conditions should consult a healthcare professional before use.

Who uses NeoBlade?

NeoBlade is trusted by:

  • Makers and engineers
  • Leatherworkers and woodcrafters
  • Dental professionals (e.g. for plaster model finishing)
  • Artists working with resin, clay, or composites
  • Educators and students in design or STEM fields
